I stole some photos from Ashley’s Instagram to post up here to give everyone a taste of where we’ll be staying in Wassaic, NY. Ashley has already been there for three weeks, and has had the chance to snap some photos of some pretty charming places.
I can’t believe I’ll be sleeping in that absolute adorable gingerbread house! The Wassaic Project seems to be a pretty fine place.
Ashley has been in Wassaic, NY the whole month of July at an art residency called The Wassaic Project.
I am leaving today to join her out in rural New York state. We’ll spend a week in the idyllic countryside, then a week in the city.
Expect some updates involving MoMA, the Whitney, New Museum, etc.
Opening reception tonight for my work on show at Customary Clothing. I’m showing with Ashley Sloan and Nathanael Thayer Moss. Jeff Jahn on PORT wrote an announcement for the show:
One of the things I love about Portland’s scene and wasn’t covered at all in the WSJ article was the fact that we have small shops that sell other things and actively present art in a professional though often less concentrated way. Which is all to say we should check out Customary Clothing in that great little Burnside arts district by the Jupiter hotel. In addition to premiering their S/S 2012 line of clothing, the shop will be showcasing art by Calvin Ross Carl, Ashley Sloan, and Nathanael Thayer Moss. I appreciate how art and life are not separated in Portland.

Ashley has been working on some really interesting new work lately. Above are a couple sneak peeks of some pieces she just finished.
You can see a version of this installation at the SFAI Swell Gallery!
Ashley’s new sculptures are gorgeous! I wish I could have gone down to San Fran with her to see the installation down at SFAI.
Instead of a Valentine’s Day card, I created a Valentine’s Day website for my lovely wife Ashley.
Whoa. My wife is rad. She has been posting some excellent new pieces on her blog.
I believe the piece above is all ink and pencil on paper.
Ashley and I both had work in the Disjecta Auction on Saturday. Ashley’s piece was featured in the live auction, and it was a blast seeing people bid back and forth on her work. Ashley and I bought a piece by Alex Felton (Alex needs a web portfolio. Here’s his Nudity in Groups rag), which I will have to take a photo of. It’s disgustingly gorgeous.
Thanks for all the fun [and free drinks (and for hanging my piece somewhat improperly even though I provided instructions, but who cares)] Disjecta!
Our amazing friends (and the photographers of our wedding) Mary and Joel of Blue Window put together this great video of all the pictures from the photobooth at our wedding. Lots of really sweet, fun, and even some really inappropriate photos lie ahead. Mary and Joel are finishing up all the processing of the photos from our wedding, so we just might have some more to share in the not too distant future. Special thanks to Chelsea and Twon for making the photo booth decorations happen. Josh Arseneau and Emily Perkins win the award for Most Unexpected Chalkboard Note:Our Wedding Photobooth

Over the weekend, Ashley and I visited our favorite swimming hole, which is just outside of Eugene, OR. The above photo is from a gas station on the edge of Eugene, as we were heading out to Brice Creek.
Sadly, due to last minute planning and a crazy schedule, we didn’t get to see Ashley’s bro, sis-in-law and her adorable nieces. However, we got to stay in a nice bed and breakfast called The Oval Door (photo below), which was a wedding gift:
We went out to Brice Creek, where the water was so cold, it was barely swimmable. However, the day was beautiful, and you can never go wrong with a picnic next to one of the most gorgeous swimming holes you have ever seen:

Ashley Sloan (my wife) has been working on some pieces lately which revolve around her tendency for excessive planning, making elaborate lists, and scheduling nearly every detail of life. This has lead to this video, which is being exhibited at Store Gallery (Facebook event link) starting this weekend. The video originally drew from the 10+ page spreadsheet Ashley created which detailed every event that would be occurring during our honeymoon.
Somewhere along the line, it turned into something much more than that. It’s oddly hypnotizing to see her forever walking away from the screen on a journey which is so planned, it could in no way be compared to the romanticized idea of the sole traveler just finding their way across Europe to experience life and discover themselves.
Maybe I will be seeing some of you at the opening reception on Saturday.
Made a cute little sandwich board with our silhouettes on it to go outside our wedding venue. The silhouettes are vinyl stuck onto painted MDF.
